The process

No mystery. Here is exactly what happens.

Most people put off life insurance because the process feels like a black box. So here is the whole box, opened: every step, every timeline, everything we will ask of you.

The short version

Three steps to covered

01

A real conversation, ~20 minutes

A licensed agent learns what you are protecting, your health picture and your budget. No scripts, no pressure, and you can do it by phone or video.

02

We shop 40+ carriers

Your profile goes up against underwriting niches across the market. You get back two or three best fits with real numbers and honest tradeoffs.

03

Apply with a guide

Your agent completes the application with you, submits it the same day and stays on the carrier until your policy is in your hands.

After you apply

The road from application to active policy

Same day: submission

Your application goes to the carrier electronically. Accelerated cases start returning decisions within 24 to 72 hours.

Days 1 to 10: underwriting review

The carrier checks prescription history, MIB records and your driving record. Most of this happens without you.

If needed: interview or exam

Some cases include a short phone interview or a free 30-minute paramedical exam at your home. Your agent tells you upfront whether yours will.

Decision

Approved as applied, approved at a different rate class, or occasionally declined. If the offer is not the best available, we already know which carrier to pivot to.

Policy delivery

You review the actual contract, sign delivery documents and your first premium activates the coverage.

Free look period

Every policy includes a state-mandated window, typically 10 to 30 days, to change your mind for a full refund. No exceptions, no questions.

Your part

What we will need from you

  • Basic identity details: legal name, DOB, SSN for the application itself.
  • An honest health picture: conditions, medications, height and weight. Honesty protects your family; misstatements can jeopardize a claim.
  • Beneficiary choices: who gets the benefit and in what shares. We will help you structure it correctly.
  • About an hour, total: across the first call, the application and delivery.
Honesty corner

What can slow things down

  • Doctor's records: if underwriting orders physician statements, busy clinics can take weeks. We chase them so you do not have to.
  • Recent diagnoses: carriers sometimes postpone until a condition is stable. We will tell you which carrier is friendliest before applying.
  • Incomplete answers: gaps trigger follow-up requirements. Doing the application with an agent nearly eliminates this.
Process FAQs

Common questions

How long until I am actually covered?+

No-exam accelerated policies: often 1 to 3 days. Fully underwritten policies: typically 3 to 6 weeks. Final expense: frequently same-week. Many carriers also offer temporary coverage from the day you apply with your first payment.

What if I get declined?+

A decline at one carrier is information, not a verdict. Underwriting niches differ enormously, and our follow-up move is usually a carrier whose guidelines fit your situation, or a graded-benefit product as a bridge.

Do I pay anything before coverage starts?+

Only if you want day-one temporary coverage, which requires the first premium with the application. Otherwise you pay nothing until you accept the final offer at delivery.

Will you try to upsell me?+

Our agents are trained to size coverage to the need we calculate together, and we put that math in writing. If anything, expect us to right-size you down when the numbers say so.
